Cristiano Ronaldo & Manchester United Saga Not Settle Yet

By: Claudia Beckford, Posted on: 2008-07-17

The 23-year-old Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo who is considered as one of the best football players in the world has been for some time now facing a constant struggle to either put an end to his current contract with the English team Manchester United and join the giants at Real Madrid in Spain or to continue his professional career as part of the Red Devils.

Despite the very reasonable settlement Ronaldo managed to settle with Manchester when his contract began a couple of season ago; a profit of £120,000-a-week the lad seems to be prepared to move on and perhaps he could believe Real Madrid is the next big step in his career. No official announcements have been made and either the club or the footballer has confirmed yet this to be true yet.

On the other hand; Manchester United have control of his contract and it will completely depend on them to allow the flyer to leave. Even the team’s manager Mike Hytner has stated that in the case this becomes true and Ronaldo transfer to Spain…Manchester will remain as one of the strongest team in the Premier League as not only one man holds the key of the team’s success. Hytner even refered to big names that consolidated their careers while playing for the Manchester as: David Beckham and Rudd van Nistelrooy who decided to look for new opportunities and the team was able to survive without them.

Hytner did mention that the Portuguese has been an important part of the recent victories as he managed to score the remarkable number of 42 goals last term leading United to win both the Premier League and Champions League. Nevertheless, the team does count with similar players and if he leaves he will certainly be replaced by someone else. Basically the only player whose absence will have consequences at Manchester will be the head coach Sir Alex Ferguson who has become the man who knows the how’s and the when’s to reinvent the team even at its worst moments.

"There is no agreement with Real Madrid and I still don't know where I will be playing next season," Ronaldo said last Thursday while being interviewed.

If Ronaldo decides to pursuit this change it will certainly become one of the most expensive agreements in the history of football; some record busting figures have already been mentioned but no one has actually made any further moves to this point. Rumor has it Real Madrid has offered around £68 million for the flyer besides his £150,000-a-week on a five-year deal.

Ronaldo has recently overcome an ankle surgery and he is at the moment in rehabilitation in his motherland Portugal for the next 10 to 12 weeks in order to recover. Therefore; some time will go by before we hear if he and his club have finally settled for break ending agreement and if Ronaldo will be part in the upcoming Premier League season or if he will play in Spanish Primera Division along side with Real Madrid.
